EMERGENCY APPOINTMENTS – IMPORTANT UPDATE EFFECTIVE FROM 1ST JUNE 2023
Due to the national shortage in the veterinary workforce there are changes we are having to make to the way in which we offer our services. This is primarily in relation to the provision of emergency cover. These changes have been made in the best interests of our clients, patients and team members: to protect wellbeing and ensure that your pet gets the best possible care from a veterinary team who are not exhausted and overworked.
From 1st June 2023 we will be diverting our emergency service after 9pm Monday-Friday, after 3pm on a Saturday and all day Sunday. This means that if you have an emergency and anticipate to arrive at the practice during these times you will be diverted to My Pets Vets in Leigh. Caroline and Lloyd have been incredibly generous helping ad-hoc over the last few months as we have piloted the transition. We have found them to be caring, knowledgeable and offer a service matching our own. They benefit from a large workforce who can staff the building 365 24/7.
When looking at when our clients need us most we found 95% of calls we made before 9pm at night. This means that our team will be well rested and still provide the high level of care your pets deserve during the day whilst attending those calls in the early evening.
WILDLIFE AND STRAY ANIMALS
If you find an injured stray or wild animal you should first contact the RSPCA. They will provide a log number. Once you have this number please call us and we can treat the animal accordingly.
HOME VISITS
In an emergency, home visits can often delay the onset of treatment and be costly to the owner. We always recommend bringing your animal to the surgery. Home visits will be considered for trapped animals after a health and safety evaluation or for home euthanasia in normal working hours.
You should always contact the practice and never arrive unannounced.
